The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween Movie According to Director
There are certain movies we love to watch every Halloween and certain movies we love to watch every Christmas. One particular movie that pops up during both seasons, however, is Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.
For all those who haven’t seen The Nightmare Before Christmas, the film tells the story of Jack Skellington, Halloween Town’s beloved Pumpkin King. Officially sick of tricks and treats, Jack decides to take over Christmas with a terrifying twist. Encompassing two holidays, it’s no wonder why people often argue whether this movie is more Halloween oriented or Christmas oriented. Director Henry Selick has finally stepped in to put this debate to rest, though.
At the Telluride Horror Show film festival’s special screening of The Nightmare Before Christmas, a little girl asked Selick if it was a Christmas movie or a Halloween movie. Selick replied, “It’s a Halloween movie,” according to /Film.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Selick identifies The Nightmare Before Christmas as a Halloween flick, since he went on to make other dark family features like James and the Giant Peach and Coraline.
