It headed for killer opening weekend

Stephen King’s It is already destined to become a major box office success.

According to Box Office Mojo, the film grossed $13.5 million from Thursday night previews. Compared to other Thursday night showings throughout 2017, It just fell short of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($17 million) and Beauty and the Beast ($16.3 million).

At this rate, the film is expected to make up to $85 million, which would be the biggest opening for a September release, as well as the biggest opening for an R-rated horror film. The film might even go on to surpass The Exorcist‘s total domestic gross of $232.9 million, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated horror movie of all time.
