It Follows star joins Independence Day sequel

Having made her name in a couple of high quality B movies, Maika Monroe has joined the ever-expanding cast of Independence Day 2.

Announcing the move over twitter, director Roland Emmerich hasn’t gone into details about which character Monroe will play. She joins returning members Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman as the big names from the original, as well as fellow newcomers Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher and Charlotte Gainsburg.

Independence Day smashed records when it opened in 1996, and was the movie that thrust Will Smith to superstar status. For years a return for all the cast was on the cards, but Smith recently turned down the chance to play crusading fighter pilot Steve Hiller again.

Monroe has a number of projects on the way having won plaudits for her leading role in the highly-rated horror flick It Follows as well as retro-thriller The Guest. She’s been described as a modern day Scream Queen, and we’re sure an alien invasion will give her plenty of opportunity to test her vocal skills.
