Is a Godzilla Vs. King Kong Crossover Happening?
Legendary Pictures is looking to move Kong: Skull Island from Universal Pictures to Warner Bros. Since WB recently distributed a successful Godzilla reboot, could this mean that the kings of monsters might duke it out in a crossover movie?
Variety reports, “Sources close to the situation say while this is not a done deal, things are moving forward and that the idea is to have future Kong films possibly cross over with Godzilla films, to which WB owns the sequel rights.”
Deadline meanwhile said, “It is unclear at the moment what Universal’s position will be, but I heard the studio move is being done because it is just easier to have all the pieces under one roof, something that Marvel Studios has done with superheroes like The Hulk.”
Jordan Vogt-Roberts is currently set to direct Kong: Skull Island, which will star Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Corey Hawkins, and Jason Mitchell. Gareth Edwards is still set to direct Godzilla 2.
While a Godzilla Vs. King Kong movie may only be wishful thinking on our part, WB would be foolish not to pursue a crossover. After all, audiences could use an upgrade from 1962’s King Kong vs. Godzilla. Plus, seeing how WB distributed Pacific Rim too, could we please throw some Jaegers into the mix?
