Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey Cast in The Dark Tower

Steven King’s The Dark Tower is officially getting the big screen treatment at long last. The film adaptation has cast its leads with Idris Elba playing gunslinger Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey starring as Walter Padick.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, director Nikolaj Arcel discussed McConaughey’s role as the man in black. “Matthew is an incredible actor who can do anything,” he said. “That’s how I feel about Walter Padick. He could do anything.”

Akiva Goldman, who will be writing and producing The Dark Tower, talked with IGN and stated that Elba “is the greatest possible idea for casting for Roland.”

The Dark Tower will begin filming in South Africa in seven weeks and is currently set to come out on January 13, 2017.
