Fantastic Beasts director stands by Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald has been one of the most controversial casting decisions of recent memory. Despite receiving a backlash from fans, director David Yates is sticking with Depp as Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald moves forward.
Some of his recent film choices aside, Depp has alienated many audiences due to domestic violence allegations ex-wife Amber Heard made against him. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Yates defended Depp, stating, “With Johnny, it seems to me there was one person who took a pop at him and claimed something. I can only tell you about the man I see every day: He’s full of decency and kindness, and that’s all I see.”
In regards to the controversy between Depp and Heard, Yates called it “a dead issue.”
