Emily Blunt closing in on The Girl on the Train

One of last year’s big book sensations was The Girl on the Train, by Paula Hawkins. It’s twisty-turny plot made it the next Gone Girl, and the thriller was, unsurprisingly, picked up to turn into a movie by Dreamworks. And now we’ve learned, thanks to Variety, that Emily Blunt is very close to signing up as the lead.

If she does accept the role, she’ll star as Rachel, an alcoholic who discovers something very, very bad in a suburban home on her way to work. It sounds like a grisly blend of Hitchcock and Fincher, which will be concocted by director Tate Taylor, who has helmed The Help and Get On Up. Once Blunt has been confirmed for the part, expect a release date to also emerge.
