Director David Ayer reveals the truth about Suicide Squad and his Joker

Suicide Squad director David Ayer admits, Jared Leto’s Joker should have been the main villain of the poorly received superhero flick. Last year’s DC villain team up may have done well at the box office, but was panned by the critics with just 26% positive reviews.

One of the main annoyances was the lack of Jared Leto’s Joker who only appeared in a few of the film’s scenes. While there was also some backlash against Leto’s performance as the iconic character, labelled as ‘over the top’ in parts.

It was clear that fans wanted more of one of the cinema’s most infamous villains, but instead, they only had just 15 minutes of him. Now Suicide Squad director David Ayer has finally admitted his Joker regrets on Twitter, where he admits he “agonises over it every day.”

He added: “I’d make Joker the main villain and engineer a more grounded story. “I have to take the good and bad and learn from it. I love making movies and I love DC.”

DC’s latest film is Justice League, that one’s not going down with critics too well either, Ayer’s next film sees him team up with Will Smith once more in Netflix’s first big-budget feature film, BRIGHT, which will be available to stream in December.
