Comcast May Buy DreamWorks Animation

Cable company Comcast may purchase DreamWorks Animation for $3 billion dollars.

This possible acquisition was initially reported by Wall Street Journal. Variety has since confirmed that negotiations are taking place, although DreamWorks executives have yet to comment.

DreamWorks Animation has distributed several critical and financial hits over the years, including the Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, and Kung Fu Panda franchises. Of course some of their more recent outings, such as Turbo, Penguins of Madagascar, and Rise of the Guardians, have underperformed at the box office. Nevertheless, they’re still a major player in the realm of feature animation.

Comcast most notably owns Universal Pictures. Hasbro previously showed interest in purchasing DreamWorks, although the deal fell through in 2014.
