Colin Trevorrow exits Star Wars: Episode IX
The Star Wars Saga has dropped another director.
According to StarWars.com, Colin Trevorrow has officially left Star Wars: Episode IX.
“Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX,” a statement read.
“Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.”
Trevorrow directed one of the biggest hits of the past couple years with Jurassic World. More recently, however, he directed The Book of Henry, which was not only a box office flop, but one of the worst reviewed movies of 2017. Although the statement says that differing visions lead to his exit, one can’t help but wonder if The Book of Henry brought Trevorrow’s chapter to a close.
This isn’t the first time a Star Wars director has been replaced. Ron Howard substituted Christopher Miller and Phil Lord on the upcoming Han Solo spinoff. Although Gareth Edwards wasn’t replaced on Rogue One, Tony Gilroy was brought onboard to help with reshoots. As for who will direct Episode IX now, it’s up in the air.
In any case, the film is set to come out on May 24, 2019.
