A Speedy Gonzales Movie is Rushing to Theaters

Warner Bros. has officially announced an animated feature centered on Speedy Gonzales, the fastest mouse in all Mexico and a beloved member of the Looney Tunes gang.

According to Deadline, the film is currently titled Speedy and Eugenio Derbez will voice the cartoon all-star.

“I’m really excited to be bringing this character to the big screen,” said Derbez, describing Speedy as a “superhero.” “And besides being Mexican— my full name is Eugenio Derbez Gonzalez and I have big ears,” he added, saying “the casting couldn’t be better.”

Dylan Sellers and Ben Odell will produce the film with Hank Nelken penning the script, which will have a “heist caper” theme.

“We see this as an origin story of the great master, like a Robin Hood character, who ultimately ends up taking from the rich and giving to the poor,” Sellers said. “In a time when Donald Trump is gaining momentum, the world needs Speedy more than ever.”

Along with Speedy, Warner Bros. also has a Scooby-Doo movie in the works. We’re still waiting to see if LeBron James will really star in Space Jam 2, however.
