Mega Man Movie in Development

The Tracking Board reports that “20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment have started development” on a Mega Man motion picture. Making his debut in 1987, Mega Man has become one of the most iconic video game characters ever. He’s appeared in over 50 games, recently joining a slew of other all-stars in Super Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U.

As we all know, video games movies haven’t had the best track record with Adam Sandler’s Pixels being the latest flop. Video game movies don’t have to suck, though. There’s certainly plenty of potential for a Mega Man feature film, especially with the right people involved. We’re optimistic since Fox and Chernin previously brought us the rebooted Planet of the Apes movies. Let’s just hope this project actually gets off the ground, though, and doesn’t get swept under the rug like that rumored Legend of Zelda Netflix series.
